What exactly are "Acts of Service"?
Acts : anything done, being done, or to be done; deed; performance: to do something; exert energy; be employed or operative. of Service: an act of helpful activity; help; aid: to do someone a service; to supply with aid, information, or other service.
LCS Students and staff strive to make a difference in our society.
In fact, it's even a component of our Vision Statement.
Here are a few Acts of Service we do here at LCS:
- Morning and afternoon School Patrollers.
- Volunteer-run concession for students.
- Grade 7 & 8 Highway 2A clean-up.
- Hot Lunch Mom volunteers.
- Grade 7 & 8 Clean-up at Camp Silversides.
- Scarf Knitting for the Edmonton Native Healing Centre.
- Visits to the Extended Care Nursing Homes.
- Food Bank collections at every school assembly.
- Grade 9's help with lunchtime supervision on the East Campus. (They call themselves: "The Guardian Angels")
- Volleyball teams volunteer at Bethel CRC - Circle of Friends Suppers.
- Grades 1-6 sing at the Rotary Christmas Carol Festival.
- Annual Mini Mall event - raises funds for Edudeo Ministries and other charities.
- Grade 9's volunteer at the Lacombe Food Bank every Friday.
- Christmas Serve Projects - each division chooses a cause to help. December 2011, the K-3 division collected 48 boxes for Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes. Grades 4-6 held their annual Bake Sale for Worldvision, raising $1,135.22! Junior High collected spare change throughout December for the Make Change Happen organization; as well they hosted a movie fundraiser for "Plan Canada". Altogether Junior High raised $2,245.00!
- Grade 9's tie skates for the younger grades at lunchtime.
- Junior High participates in the annual 30-Hour Famine fundraiser.
