Curriculum
The curriculum at LCS adheres to the requirements set out by Alberta Education. We do this, incorporating Christian perspectives and resources, within a Teaching for Transformation model. This model sees education in light of head, heart, and hands - educating the student for knowledge, understanding, and service and seeing all of education within the hand of God. We want each student's education to be deep, rich, and applicable, nurturing them to be active, Spirit-filled disciples of Christ and responsible citizens. We recognize that each student is unique, so we strive to make sure that the education of each student suits the needs of that student. Finally, we want students to enjoy their education, so we incorporate different methods and levels in each class. We recognize that learning is a complex process that includes thinking, doing, modeling, and speaking; it is optimal when children are engaged in these activities in a safe and caring environment. This type of learning environment enhances a child’s self-concept and creates joy in learning.
Early Childhood Services (ECS) Kindergarten
ECS in a Christian environment is a very important and necessary step in the life of every child. It is designed to prepare children to begin academic learning in the light of God's Word and to help children adapt to the school routine in a Christian atmosphere. We desire it to be a happy experience, as we believe children do better in school if they begin with an enthusiasm for learning and a desire to act as a child of God.
Kindergarten students attend school full days on either a Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday combination. The ECS program strives to achieve a balance between the informal nurturing of the home and the more formalized teaching of the school. Our Kindergarten students attend classes on the East Campus.
