School Life
Spiritual Growth
At LCS, the Word of God is emphasized. We believe Christian Education to be an extension of the home and church, where Alberta Education's Curriculum is taught with a Biblical perspective. Since we are a parent-governed school, both students and parents grow in their faith. We trust that through our association we may grow in understanding the truths contained in God's Word and in His creation and prepare our children for a life of service in the Kingdom of God.
In the area of Spiritual Growth, we at LCS:
- Build Christian foundations in our children, to be responsible, discerning citizens in society.
- Offer Christian guidance to our families.
- Participate in Service Projects (in community & abroad).
- Host regular “Buddy Group” sessions, where students contribute to each other’s Spiritual Growth in a small group setting led by a teacher or parent volunteer.
This year's Buddy Groups theme is "The Names of God". Each month at the assembly a grade will be leading us in looking more closely at one of God's names as mentioned in the Bible and how it relates to us.
Fine Arts
Fine Arts is an important part of our children's education. Students learn that worshiping God is about celebrating who God is, what God has done and is doing, and what God has created. We study and participate in art throughout the year as part of our curriculum. Additionally, we have our own kiln here at LCS, and throughout the school year classes participate in clay projects as an added part. Every February we celebrate Fine Arts Month. We take time to look and wonder; and create opportunities to see the beauty, delicacy, oddity and miracle in everyday things.
"God saw all that he had made, and it was very good." Genesis 1:31
We have a number of activities happening during Fine Arts Month, as we celebrate in a time of learning, creating, exploring and giving praise to our Lord through Fine Art & Music! Some activities that have taken place in previous years:
- K to Grade 5 Shibori Textile Dying
- ECS Warm Wax Art
- Grade 6 Watercolour painting
- Grade 7 & 8 Printmaking
- Grade 9 Clay Mask Making
*As a conclusion to the month, we host a Fine Arts Night, where all families are invited to tour the West Campus for an entertaining evening of Art, Drama, Music & Refreshments.
Volunteer Opportunities
Lacombe Christian School has been very blessed by our parents' and society members' involvement and dedication to our school. In addition to serving on our Board, there are numerous Volunteer opportunities and Committees that are an integral part of our school:
- Coaching (as required)
- Classroom Parent Helpers (as required)
- Hot lunch preparers and servers (as required)
- Education Committee
- Service Committee
- Finance Committee
- Salaries & Benefits Committee
- Transportation Committee
- Auction Committee
Many hands and hearts are needed to run our school and these committees consist of parents and society members who willingly share their talents and gifts. If you are interested in participating in fellowship with other parents as you work and plan various school events throughout the year, please contact the office with your preference in the area you would like to serve!
Other volunteer opportunities: The Building Blocks Thrift Store (located at 5111-50th Avenue, across from the Royal Bank on Main Street). The Thrift Store opened its doors in November 2004. The store exists to generate funds through the sale of merchandise towards the financial support of Lacombe Christian School and Central Alberta Christian High School. Since it's opening, over $2,500,000 has been donated to LCS & CACHS ($1,250,000 to each school)! If you would like to be a part of this great store, please email the store at buildingblocksts@gmail.com.
Grandparents
2024 Grandparents' Day is scheduled for Monday, April 22, 2024 D.V.
Every April, LCS hosts our annual Grandparents' & Senior Supporters Appreciation Luncheon. This is a special day where students invite their grandparents or a 'special senior' to lunch and short program. Following is an opportunity for classroom visits and fellowship. If your child(ren) does not have grandparents that are able to attend, we encourage you to contact the office and we'll make arrangements with grandparents in our area who would be thrilled to 'adopt' a grandchild for the day.
Grandparents receive their own special newsletter twice per year. This newsletter is tailored especially for our Grandparents and Senior Supporters. If your child(ren)'s grandparents would like to receive this newsletter, please let the office know.
Annual Spring Drive
Every year, our LCS Society is given the opportunity to participate in the annual Spring Drive to raise funds for our school. Your support will ensure that we can continue to offer quality Christian Education in the Lacombe area, while keeping tuition costs at an affordable level for everyone. You can direct your gift in the following areas:
- Capital Fund (mortgage)
- Facility Upgrades
- Tuition Relief
- Endowment Fund
- General Fund (day to day operations)
Government funding for independent schools in Alberta covers only a part of the school's operating costs. Tuition only covers the educational component of educating. The funds raised through this drive goes toward capital expenditures such as land and outbuildings.
